The first national standard for straw products drew up by Ningbo has been put into effect.

| Municipal
Straw Industry Economic Association has recently received the document from
National Commission of Reform and Development, according to which, the national
industrial standard for straw products jointly drew up by the association and 6
local enterprises has been formally put into effect. It indicates that the straw
products which have a history of over 2000 years for the first time have
national trade standard. As a traditional agricultural products in
Ningbo, straw
products in produced in more than 120 enterprises in the city, including more
than 20 enterprises with an annual sales income of over 10 million yuan.
However, because there was not a unified standard, it is hard for straw product
enterprises to create own brands. In 2005, Ningbo Straw Industry Economic
Association applied to National Commission of Reform and Development to set up
national standards for straw products. The application is approved in June 2007.
6 leading local enterprises of straw products with famous trademarks were chosen
by the association to draw up the standard under the direction of national
standards commission.
